Akusisi, Merger, atau Aliansi ? BTEL & STI

Tentang Sinergi Bakrie Telecom dan Sampoerna Telekomunikasi

By Amir Karimuddin - March 15, 2012

“The Bakrie group is looking to sell some equity via a non pre-emptive rights issue to raise money for Bakrie Telecom,” said the source. That method of fund-raising means the company does not need shareholder approval because the stake is within a 10 percent limit.

Bakrie Telecom will use the capital injection to pay back some of its debt, including 650 billion rupiah of bonds maturing this September, the source added.

The new partner will eventually buy up more shares and could become a majority shareholder in Bakrie Telecom with a 51 percent stake, one the sources added.

Singapore mobile telephone penetration crosses 150 percent in 2011

2012-05-11

Telecom Lead Asia: Singapore's overall mobile telephone penetration passed the 150 percent mark in late 2011, according to the latest "Singapore - Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband" report available from Research and Markets.

The country's 3G market continues to flourish. In May 2011, the country had around 5.8 million 3G subscribers, meaning 74 percent of all mobile subscribers are 3G and effectively 100 percent of the households in the country now have some form of high speed broadband Internet access.

The Singapore government's large scale project to build an island-wide broadband network called the Next Generation National Infocomm Infrastructure (Next Gen NII) is proceeding. While the IDA had initially reported good progress on the roll-out of this network, in early 2012 it intervened in the construction process upon concerns with the slowing pace.

According to the IDA the network will deliver universal coverage by the 2013 target.

A significant trend noted in Singapore telecommunications market is that the fixed line telephone services remain remarkably resilient with what the IDA describes as more than 100 percent of households connected to the fixed network.

SingTel Group, through its alliance with Bharti Airtel in India, has further market presence in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Africa. By the start of 2012 the SingTel group had 434 million mobile subscribers across its many markets.

Singapore's mobile subscriber base has continued to grow (152 percent penetration by December 2011) as well as its value-added data services. The launch of 3G services has been particularly insightful. There was an obvious period of uncertainty surrounding the introduction of 3G. After launch in 2005 the take up rate was initially slow.

By early 2012, there were more than 5.8 million 3G subscribers in a country where the total mobile market was around 7.8 million. In other words 3G subscribers represented a compelling 74 percent of the total subscriber base as 3G rapidly became the normal' mobile service in the country.

The roll-out of the national broadband network seemed to be proceeding at a good pace through 2011. Nucleus Connect had started offering commercial services on the network in September 2010. Network coverage had reached the required 60 percent of the population by end-2010 and by halfway through 2011 was on track to provide 95 percent coverage by mid-2012.

Pendapatan Non Voice Mobile di Asia Pasifik 2011

By Telecom Lead Team: Japan is on the top of the top 15 countries in Asia Pacific based on non-voice mobile revenues in 2011. Japan non-voice revenues touched $41.55 billion in 2011 and it will forecast to reach $44.54 billion in 2012.

Thanks to demand for data, non-voice revenue in Asia Pacific will grow 9.3 percent to $116.98 billion in 2012 from $107.16 billion in 2011, according to Ovum.

China is the second leading country. China has recorded around $35 billion revenue from non-voice segments. Australia, South Korea and Indonesia are in third, fourth and fifth positions.

India is in sixth position with $2.61 billion revenue coming from non-voice businesses in 2011.

Recently Ovum said that emerging market operators will continue to experience strong connections growth in 2012. Mobile broadband will be the main driver of this growth, but it will also act as a strategic disruptor.

Emerging market operators will continue to see double digit mobile connections growth in 2012. Large markets with relatively low mobile penetration, such as China, India and Indonesia, will be the key drivers of this growth.

"Many emerging market operators went through a transitional period in 2011. Operators had to continue adjusting to slower mobile connections growth, tougher competition, more regulation and lower prices and margins. While many emerging markets are still expected to experience double-digit connections growth in 2012, few will report double-digit revenue growth," said Angel Dobardziev, Ovum Telecoms Emerging Markets practice leader and co-author of the report.

The growth of data traffic will also increase the demand for domestic and international backhaul capacity that links emerging markets. Many operators will find that they need to deploy strategies to better manage the considerable increase in data traffic, which will increase the demand for traffic shaping and local content-caching solutions.

The rapid growth of mobile broadband will force emerging market operators to question their role in the expanded mobile content and applications value chain. While the shift to downloading content and applications from over-the-top app stores appears to be inevitable, emerging market operators have not given up on their ambitions to assume a role beyond that of a LEAN (low-cost enabler of agnostic networks) player.

LinkedIn are widely regarded as the premier social network for business people, and that reputation has been enhanced this week with the news that they have purchased Slideshare for $119 million.
Slideshare is a site that allows users to upload presentations, documents and videos.  Think of it like a YouTube for PowerPoints.  As with YouTube the site allows users to take content from SlideShare and embed it into sites around the web, so is a hugely popular method for thought leaders to spread their knowledge far and wide.
SlideShare has already got an app on LinkedIn that allows users to embed presentations from their account into their LinkedIn profile, so a more formal tie up with LinkedIn was a natural fit.
In a press release to announce the move, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner said:
"Presentations are one of the main ways in which professionals capture and share their experiences and knowledge, which in turn helps shape their professional identity,"
"These presentations also enable professionals to discover new connections and gain the insights they need to become more productive and successful in their careers, aligning perfectly with LinkedIn's mission and helping us deliver even more value for our members. We're very excited to welcome the SlideShare team to LinkedIn."
